A lot of parts must be harvested from a DMG motherboard to make these, such as the link port, power switch/jack, volume pot, RAM, CPU, op-amp, cartridge connector, and screen connector. Here's a screenshot of the (not quite finished) PCB design for those interested:Ī big part of this for me was that I wanted everything to look and feel just like a normal DMG on the outside, other than some extra I/O and a button or two.
It doesn't sound like much, but if I can get it to work right, it will be a huge step for further development, like adding different sound chips, or wireless communication.
Basically, it's a replacement motherboard for a DMG that (for now) has an arduinoboy, 7486 XOR 'bivert chip', and easy prosound pads. I've been working on this for a while now, and I'm almost ready to make a prototype.
